Summary
In the summer of 2021, the Redistricting Commission of a major city in the US held 20+ community events to gather public feedback. The events were hybrid, and participation from the greater community was vital. As this city has a diverse population, access to these meetings in multiple languages is helpful but also mandatory. KUDO provided its platform for real-time interpretation both in person and via streaming enabling full city access to the event in English, Tagalog, Khmer, and Spanish.

How did we do it?
Historically, the town halls and other community events were held in person. Onsite interpretation was available when requested, and organizers gave out headsets to audience members who wanted to follow the meetings in another language. With COVID-19 restrictions and protocols, attending town halls in person was not an available option for the community.
This city’s event organizers were able to leverage KUDO’s user-friendly platform to enable 20+ hybrid meetings that were live-streamed. KUDO provided onboarding to the platform for the city’s in-house interpreters and technical support before and during the events for the event organizers.
Removing language barriers
With KUDO, citizens were able to watch these events from the comfort and safety of their own homes in their preferred languages. KUDO’s streaming capabilities gave more people access to the meetings, kept more people informed, and drove more overall engagement between the residents and the community leaders.
