Summary

The Impactful Women gathering was the culmination event for the ASEAN WISE fellowship, a year-long incubator building capacity for women-led enterprises addressing poverty in Southeast Asia. The two-day virtual convention celebrated the work of women-led, community-based enterprises and the contributions they have made to their local collective. The online event highlighted 17 enterprises in the creative economy (e.g., handwoven textiles, sustainable and ethical ‘slow fashion’, Indigenous music) from nine of ten ASEAN countries including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Angels of Impact seeks to elevate the voices of marginalized communities; however, many of these communities are left out of national and international decision-making due to, amongst other obstacles, language barriers. Therefore, it was all the more critical that KUDO’s interpretation services assisted women leaders in the region to connect and contribute to building an entrepreneurial eco-system.

How did we do it?

Virtual conferences can be challenging when multiple languages are added to the equation. For The Impactful Women Gathering, KUDO was able to source professional interpreters with relative topic expertise across all 5 languages requested to support the two-day event. Furthermore, KUDO was able to provide technical support to ensure both presenters and attendees alike had a positive experience.

The event was hosted online using the virtual platform Hubilo. Through the power of KUDO Language Access, KUDO’s drop-down language selector accessible on the platform which enabled more than 270 participants across 10 different countries to seamlessly access interpretation for the language of their choice. Simultaneous interpretation was provided in Thai, Vietnamese, Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Melayu, and Khmer to enable participants to listen and contribute in their own language, fostering a more interactive discussion.

About Angels of Impact

Angels of Impact was started in 2016 by a group of conscious entrepreneurs who believed that poverty can be sustainably ended by investing in women-led community-based sustainable enterprises. It is a Singapore based social enterprises that works across Asia Pacific with a presence in Singapore, US, and New Zealand. Angels of Impact funds, offers capacity building and a community of learning and support for women leaders working to restore people and the planet. It focuses on “missing middle” women and Indigenous-led community-based enterprises that are too big for microfinance and too small for most impact investors. These enterprises aggregate the work of other women or women led micro enterprises and add value in a way that helps end poverty sustainably and systemically.
